Introduction: Although many studies have been conducted on thalassemia from different aspects, none of them have yet identified the preferences of parents of patients with thalassemia major in receiving health information. Parents of these patients need appropriate and timely information to manage and resolve the problems of their children and family. This study aimed to identify the preferences of these parents in obtaining information to manage their children’s health. Methods: This was an applied, descriptive, and cross-sectional research. The study was conducted through interviews with the parents of patients with thalassemia major who were admitted to the pediatric ward of a hospital affiliated to Semnan University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2014. The data collection tool was a valid and reliable researcher-made questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.87). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Friedman test. Results: According to the results, 39.6% of the parents reported obtaining information about mental health problems as their first priority, while 56.6% of the parents reported obtaining information about the side effects of Desferal as their first priority. In addition, 56.6% of the parents preferred that the information be given to the patients’ father. Conclusion: The results indicated the type of information parents prefer to obtain first. Informational support can help the parents better manage their children’s illness. Transference of valuable knowledge through several information sources to the parents can lead to improvement of health in the society and parents feeling that they are socially supported.

Introduction: The use of new technologies has created much concern about privacy and security of health information. As regards health care workers are the main users of hospital information system aiming to improve the quality of care, This study as aimed to evaluate employee's perspective towards electronic health information security. Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 400 workers working in medical centers affiliated to Semnan University of Medical Sciences in 2012-13. Data has collected by a research made questionnaire which its validity was confirmed by experts and its reliability was justified by test-retest and analyzed by descriptive testsResults: the findings indicated that 55.7% selected employees’ role, 38.3% chose the perception of the importance of information security, 33% selected in service training and 47.5% chose proper infrastructure as the most important factors in health information security.Conclusion: It is concluded, the employees selected organizational, behavioral and other factors as the most important factors. It seems the control policy, the training courses, the investing in technology and the appropriate infrastructures are necessary to improve electronic health information security in medical centers.

Introduction: Physicians when interacting with technology like other people are worried due to the mismatch of information technology with their information needs. This can be a reason for their unwillingness to information technology. This study was conducted to investigate barriers and facilitators in physicians’ adoption towards information technology in health areaMethods: This descriptive - applied study was performed on doctors in Semnan city in 2012. This study was census and all of the population (200 people) was studied. Data collection was conducted by a valid, reliable and researcher- made questionnaire which its valid was measured based on literature review and expert opinions and its reliability was performed based on test and re-test. Data were analyzed by descriptive tests and SPSS 16.Results: 43(35.5%) reported structured data, 31(38.8%) selected the speed in obtaining information and 18( 29%) chose error reduction as the first to third priorities for their desire to use clinical information system. 59(50.4%) reported the lack of integrity of clinical information system in medical issues as the main obstacle to use of computers in clinical areas. 69(55.6%) selected the increasing of awareness towards clinical information system as the first solution to increase doctors’ willingness to information technology.Conclusion: It seems the resolving of the barriers and the strengthening of the facilitators through cultural promotion cause to increase physicians’ adoption towards information technology in health area and it leads to change physicians’ culture and organizational behavior and reduce their cultural resistance toward information technology.Keywords: Adoption; Physicians; Health Information Technology.

Introduction: Given the complexity and dynamic nature of triage and ahead challenges in selecting the required information in emergency environment, this study aimed to improve the registration quality of triage process and shift it from paper-based to computer-based triage assessment through processing of the triage staff expectations data model of emergency information system. Methods: This descriptive study was performed on nurses and physicians working in triage units of affiliated hospital of Tehran, Iran and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2009. This study was conducted in three steps. The first step was to collect data through interviews; the second step was modeling by methods of rational unified process (RUP) and unified modeling language (UML) and the third step was a Delphi approach to confirm the models scientifically using a valid, reliable and researcher-made questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the questionnaire data. Results: Through interviewing with the triage staff based on working process, we found that triage staff required data elements should have coherent and integrated association. In the Delphi, results showed that 82% of the statistical population agreed with the elements and information structure in the triage unit. Conclusion: The findings suggested that the triage unit staff had a broad understanding of the triage and recognized triage as a process in which the severity of disease, screening and data collection about assessment are combined. The results of this study can be used to guide and prioritize required information in the emergency information system in the triage area of victims and patients base on the triage nurses' and doctors' performance. Introduction: Nursing information system (NIS) has made progressions in resolving multiple challenges of healthcare organizations such as influencing the workload, effective planning in working methods and communication among multiple jobs. This study aimed to investigate the experience of nurses in impact of NIS on nursing services efficiency.Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 316 nurses in affiliated hospitals of Semnan University of Medical Sciences, Iran and Social Security Organization in 2011-2012. Data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire that evaluated the computer literacy and nurses’ perception with effect of computer system on nursing services efficiency. After expert confirmation and reliability assessment based on Cronbach’s alpha, the questionnaire was distributed among the study subjects. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: Most nurses experienced the impact of information system on nursing practice acceleration (52.4%), having more time for patient care (49.7%), and the ease of intersectional information exchange (49.3%). They believed that they could not enter clinical data into computer simultaneous with care delivery, and there was duplication in recording information. There was a significant association among some of demographic profile and characteristics of computer literacy and nurses’ experience (P < 0.05).Conclusion: The results showed that NIS had a positive influence on some of nursing services; however, it increased their workload. Hence, it is necessary that NIS is employed by more effective methods. This issue allows managers to distribute resources better, reduce misunderstandings, and increase nursing support for new technology.Keywords: Nursing Services; Nurses; Efficiency; Nursing Information System

Introduction: In medical education, ambulatory medicine education especially emergency is the most important part of medical education. Aim of this study is the survey of medial students information needs seeking behavior pattern. We expect this study impacts on the clinical education quality, the recognition of students' education needs and better management of patients by medical students.Methods: This descriptive and analytic study examines the information needs of interns in the Emergency departments of teaching hospitals of Iran medical sciences university in 2008. Questionnaires and observations were used to collect data from seventy medical students. Observations and questionnaires were used. Reliability was assessed and there was found high reliability (0/80). Chi-square and two-tailed and bi variation correlation tests were used to investigate significant associations among the data.Results: The statistical test revealed significant association between the diagnosis and treatment needs (P < 0/001, Co = 0/576). The majority of the students information needs were laboratories test (84/3%). The least of those were dead persons transfer (1/4%). Medical students were most likely to rely on patient, patient chart, colleagues and printed sources. Significantly medical student were likely to pursue needs related to treatment with printed sources. (P = 0/01).Conclusion: A few organizational or management questions were asked. The students did not pay attention to legal issues. Many medical students prefer to obtain information from resources that are convenient, easy to use and reliable. It is recommended that initiate programs about importance of legal issues and organizational information in curriculum and development of educational programs to promote evidence–based decision making among medical students.Keywords: Health Services Needs and Demand; Students, Medical; Education, Medical; Emergency Service, Hospital.
